Koh Samui Attractions

For many years Samui has been a major tourist destination and hence many attractions have been developed for recreation of visitors. Including both cultural experiences, recreational activities and of course simply modern relaxation. Here are a selection of a few major items you should consider visiting during your time on Lamai Beach.  Or if you would rather not travel so far there is also a list of attractions which are near to Lamai itself.

This unusual Aquapark is located on the beach rather than in a swimming pool and the various activities are sea-based.  A variety of floating obstacles and climbing challenges are anchored just off the beach and allow those who participate to challenge their physical strength, dexterity and just sheer guts to get up and over each of them.

For those who wish to relax more than climb there are on-beach activities including relaxing massage and of course simply watching and photographing your friends and family in the water.  Very reasonably priced on the half-hour basis this attraction is located in the middle of Chaweng Beach, just 20 minutes drive from Lamai.

Plai Laem Temple

Located in the north of the island this modern Buddhist temple combines Chinese and Thai Buddhist themes with a giant 18 armed statue of the Chinese Buddhist Goddess of Compassion "Guanyin" as well as the White Laughing Buddha. With the temple itself located on a pier jutting out over an artificial lake it is a peaceful and beautiful place to visit.

About 30 minutes drive from Lamai it is best to take an organized tour or hire a driver to take you here. As a place of worship it is open to all visitors every day, but during daylight hours only. Please note that respectful dress is expected of all people who come into the temple

Old Fisherman's Village

The old quarter of the village of Bophut is known as the Fisherman's Village because it has retained it's style and structure from the days before Koh Samui was known to the world. As a simple Chinese influenced Thai fishing village it has the traditional two story shop houses lining a main street.

Outside the old part of the village there are plenty of modern facilities for the visitors including hotels, bars and restaurants. Being a more traditional part of Thailand though there are no modern nightclubs with erotic entertainment in Bophut.

Secret Buddha Garden

Located near the centre of Koh Samui this mountain top garden contains a large collection of outdoor Buddha statues which were assembled by a local famer during his life. Now open as a public park for a small entrance fee it is not only a great thing to see in it's own right, but also part of the real interior of the island that otherwise is hard to reach.

Due to the mountainous location and poor roads it is difficult to go here independently, however it is often included in adventure tours of the islands so ask at your hotel tour desk.

Big Buddha Statue

Located at Phra Yai Temple on a small island off the north coast of Samui this popular attraction may be seen during arrival from your airplane windows! Better appreciated up close it is accessible via a causeway from Samui.  Built in 1972 it is part of an actively consecrated Buddhist temple complex and is a place of worship, meditation and contemplation as well as a tourist attraction.

Go Kartt

And here is something entirely different, try driving a Go Kart at one of the many tracks on the island!

Restaurants Dining

Dining opportunities abound at Lamai Beach, with everything from beach side open air restaurants where you dine with your feet in the sand, to up market European eateries with white table cloth fine dining. And of course everything in between.

Whether you fancy Authentic Thai food, or modernized fusion cuisine, favorites from your home country or an international spread there is something for every taste and every budget at Lamai Beach.

Well packed together in the centre of Lami are a wide range of choices, and then each of the resorts and hotels along the beach of course have their own in house dining choices the great majority of which are open to any customer.
